McQUEEN FAMILY HISTORY
The McQueens are Celts that left northern Ireland for western Scotland and the inner Hebride
Islands Scotland. They are associated with Clanranald of the McDonalds. Many McQueens still
live in the northern end of the Isle of Skye.
Circa 1400 a Revan McQueen accompanied a close kinswoman, who married a chief of the MacIntosh
Clan, to Moy about 7 miles south of Inverness. Revan subsequently married a MacIntosh and
started Clan Revan a member of the 13 clan confederation called Clan Chattan (Clan of the Cat). His home was
called Corrybrough located a couple of miles from Moy.

Dugal McQueen, a Jacobite, was in the MacIntosh brigade that invaded England in the 1715
uprising. He was captured at Preston, Lancastershire, England November 13, 1715. He was shipped
to Annapolis, Maryland and sold on August 25, 1716 as an indentured servant for 7 years to
William Holland member of the Governor's Colonial Council. Dugal is listed as a tax payer
(property owner) in the Upper Cliffs Hundred of Calvert County in 1732. Dugal a resident of
Prince Georges County received 72 acres of land called Cranberry Plains September 1, 1740
(Julian Calendar). Cranberry Plains is probably located on the site of St Johns Catholic Church
and School in Westminster, Maryland. Dugal signed his will on March 26, 1746. His wife was
listed as Grace (Brown?). He names his sons William, Francis and Thomas. Dugal is my 5th Great
Grandfather.
There is a debate whether William or Thomas is my 4th Great Grandfather. I believe the stronger
argument says that Thomas was my 4th Great Grandfather. Thomas received 29 acres called Foxs
Thicket on January 22, 1760 in Baltimore County. I believe it is located in or near Hampstead,
Maryland. Thomas probably moved to Great Cove near Bedford, Pennsylvania and possibly was killed
on November 13, 1763 by Indians during Pontiac's War. Thomas and Elizabeth (Berry?) had sons
Joshua, John, Thomas, Benjamin and possibly James and Daniel plus a daughter Elizabeth.
James McQueen was born about 1763 in Baltimore County, Maryland. He is my 3rd Great Grandfather.
He moved to the Mingo Bottom area that is currently in the Weirton, West Virginia area. James
shows up on the Pennsylvania draft rolls during the Revolutionary War and participated in the
Crawford Campaign culminating in the disastrous defeat by the Indians near Sandusky, Ohio on
June 5, 1782. James had a harrowing escape taking 9-10 days to get home again. His younger
brother probably Daniel was killed. James settled in Kentucky near Boonesborough and then on the
Ohio River near Limestone. He later moved to Polk County, Missouri. James had two sons, John A L
McQueen and Thomas McQueen. He married Elizabeth Logsdon February 8, 1791. He died in Polk
County, Missouri in 1819 or 1820.
John A L McQueen was born about 1787 in Kentucky. He married Clarisa Byram on December 5, 1810.
They had 5 sons including Thomas M and 4 daughters. John later married Samaria Lewis Nevil and
they had 3 daughters and 2 sons. John may have fought in the War of 1812 as a cavalryman. John
moved to Polk County, Missouri with his father. John was my 2nd Great Grandfather.
Thomas M McQueen was born January 14, 1817 and died December 21, 1847 in Elsberry, Lewis County,
Missouri. He married Mary Ellen Vaughn December 8, 1840. They had 3 sons named Almond Vaughn,
Henry and James Cornelius. Thomas was my Great Grandfather.
My Grandfather was James Cornelius McQueen born May 18, 1847 in Pike County, Missouri. He married
Mary Frances Martin on April 22, 1875.
They had 4 daughters and 4 sons including Paul Samuel.
James moved to Post Oak in Jack County, Texas where he lost a son and daughter to disease. He
moved back to Elsberry, Missouri. It is rumored that he fought in the Civil War as a Missouri
Cavalryman with his brothers Almond and Henry.
My father Paul Samuel McQueen was born May 13, 1895 in Lincoln County, Missouri. He married Lela
Lee Maupin on November 11, 1915 in Hannibal, Missouri.
December 1944
They moved to Pittsburgh and then Mars,
Pennsylvania where I was born the youngest of 7 boys and 4 girls.
I am Daniel Franklin McQueen born April 6, 1939. I moved to Maryland and married Anne Veronica
Swanson August 28, 1965.
We have a son Kevin Sean and daughter Kara Suzanne.
Kevin Sean McQueen was born October 9, 1967. He moved to Richmond and married Lorraine Redpath
June 15, 1991. They have a daughter Kelsey Anne and a son Sean Robert McQueen born December 15,
1998.
Sean is a 10th generation McQueen in America.
