HIKE OLD RAG & SHENANDOAH N. P.
October 20, 1999 Wednesday Hike Big Meadows
Anne and I drove to the Old Rag Mountain in the morning arriving before 10:00 am. It rained all the way so we decided not to hike the mountain. We drove to Big Meadows Lodge on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. The rain had subsided so we decided to hike about 5 miles through Big Meadows. We gathered in Walt Pleine’s big room for wine and or deurves. Ate supper in the lodge for $38.63. There is a big group of us including the Mooneys, Bowies, Kapperts, Grays, Huelskamps, Weyforths, Hebers, Flatons, Buchleitners and McQueens. We stayed in room 66 for $103.08.
October 21, 1999 Thursday Hike Whiteoak Canyon
Ate breakfast at the lodge for $19.10. Pat and Jim Huelskamp, Walt Pleines, Stew Weyforth, Anne and I decided to hike White Oak Canyon and Cedar Run. It was beautiful with the falls in White Oak Canyon full of water from the rain. Walt had trouble with his knees on the way down into Cedar Run and really had difficulty climbing back out White Oak Canyon. Two ladies from Virginia came upon Walt and gave him sympathy and walked out with him. It was getting late and we barely beat the darkness. We hiked 8.5 miles in the loop. We again had everyone in Walts room for wine and or deurves. Ate supper in the lodge for $45.01. We stayed in room 66 for $103.08.

October 22, 1999 Friday Hike Old Rag
Anne went shopping and antiqueing with the Huelskamps and others. I drove down to Old Rag Mountain and hiked it in brilliant sunshine with Pete and Sylvia Flaton and Robert and Barbara Buchleitner. It was perfect weather and not crowded. Since there was only 5 of us we moved along and completed the 7.9 mile circuit in a good time. We drove home to Columbia, MD stopping at de Francesca’s for dinner for $52.
