97 CANOE CHOPTANK
AND TUCKAHOE RIVERS
April 25, 1997   Friday   Drive to Denton, MD
Golfed in a best ball tournament at Oakmont as a fund raiser for the Ascension School. Drove to Camp Mardela near Denton on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Set up my tent and went to supper at Tony’s for $10.85. Camped at Camp Mardella for the night.
April 26, 1997   Saturday   Canoe Choptank River
Ted and Fran Sanderson are leading this weekend canoe trip. We have 22 people in the group and at least 11 canoes. We have a group breakfast where everyone either cooks or cleans up. We did a car plant at the take out and shuttled our canoes to the put-in. We canoed 10.7 miles down the Choptank River. We all congregated for a cookie break at mid morning linking our canoes together and drifting. We stopped for lunch which we brought individually. We ate a group supper with everyone pitching in to prepare it and clean up. Camped at Camp Mardella.
April 27, 1997   Sunday   Canoe Tuckahoe River
Again we had a group breakfast. Some people went home so there are only 18 of us this day. Struck my tent, packed up and loaded my car. We did a car plant in Queen Anne and shuttled our canoes to Tuckahoe State Park where we put in. The river is very narrow and full of downed trees. The going is slow with virtually no current and pulling the canoe over downed trees. We canoed 5.2 mile into Queen Anne where we loaded up our canoes and drove home. I drove Sue Bailey home. Sue is in her 80s and lives on the Severn River in Anne Arundel County.
